Students at a Newman Meeting

Campus Safety

It is vitally important that students feel safe and secure in their daily activities while away from home, particularly while traveling to or from one of our liturgies. Penn State has some helpful information on campus safety, including the free Safe Walk program.

Additionally, map.psu.edu shows which paths on campus are well-lit at night (“health and safety” filter). The maps site also has a filter highlighting locations of emergency phones on our campus.

Penn State Religious Holiday Attendance Policies

Penn State recognizes the need for students to miss class meetings due to religious holidays. Attendance at a liturgy celebrating a Holy Day of Obligation that occurs during the academic year (All Saints or Immaculate Conception) is an excused absence. It is recommended that students inform their instructors of any planned class absences at the beginning of the semester.

Specific information from the university, including policies, is available here.

Volunteer Opportunities

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is always looking for new volunteers for a wide variety of day-to-day operations, including:

  • Sorting, stocking, and pricing clothing and housewares
  • Accepting and managing donations as they come in
  • Operating point-of-sale registers and assisting customers with purchases

Opportunities are available for both regular volunteers and community service (service learning or court-ordered).
